ABSTRACT
Osteoarthritis and arthroplasties are increasing worldwide. The average lifetime risk for revision surgery is 5%. Periprosthetic joint infection is an important cause of revision surgery and its diagnosis is critical in treatment planning. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most sensitive radiological imaging modality for demonstrating both joint and bone infection; however, radiographs at baseline and follow-up, and in the absence of MRI, computed tomography and ultrasonography can also be used.
